This policy describes exactly what the app does with data. It is written to match the Google Play Data Safety declaration for this app; if you find a discrepancy, the stricter reading applies and we will correct the document.
Dictée is a dictation practice app for French schoolchildren. It needs an account (email sign-in) and an internet connection, because your word lists, dictations, and results are stored on our own servers so they follow you across devices. The app reads words aloud using your device's own text-to-speech voice — no audio is recorded, and the app never uses your microphone. There are no ads and no third-party analytics.
The following never leaves your phone and is erased when you uninstall the app or clear its storage:
The app talks to two systems we operate: the Dictée API and our self-hosted Supabase instance (database, authentication, and file storage), both over encrypted HTTPS connections.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To create and sign in to your account (one-time code / magic link — no password is stored) |
| Photos of word lists you choose to capture or pick from your gallery | To extract the words for your dictation exercises. This is the app's core feature; a photo is only sent when you explicitly take or select one. |
| Your word lists, dictation attempts, answers, and scores | To generate exercises, correct them, and show your progress over time |
| Purchase confirmation from Google Play (no payment details) | To credit your account after an in-app purchase |
About the photos: photos are processed to extract the word list text. The camera is only used when you tap the capture button — the app declares the camera as an optional feature and never accesses it in the background.
About the microphone: the app does not request, use, or have permission to use your microphone. Dictations are read aloud by your device's built-in text-to-speech voice, which runs on your phone.
Exercise credits are one-off purchases handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or store your payment details. Google's privacy policy governs the transaction: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Dictée is designed to be used by children for schoolwork, typically with a parent's help. The account email is expected to be a parent's or guardian's. Beyond the email used to sign in, the app collects no personal information about the child — exercises and scores are tied to the account, not to a named child. We do not show ads and do not share any data with third parties for marketing.
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of data associated with you.
You can delete your account and all associated data (word lists, photos, dictations, scores) directly from the app: Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
You can also email apocys@gmail.com with the subject "Dictée data deletion" and we will action it within 30 days.
Your data is retained while your account exists and is deleted when you delete your account. On-device data is retained until you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
